Well we are now in our first hotel in Lockport NY, 10 days into our trip, and I must say that we have learned a great deal. The first week was a brutal breaking in period with all of us riders getting adjusted to not having the common amenities of modern life. The first day we made it all the way from Portland ME to Conway NH only getting lost a couple time making a planned 50 mile ride into a grueling 80 miler. The first night of camping was also unforgiving when we pitched our tents in the White Mountain National Forest , which to our knowledge is run by black flies which bite like ravenous zombies.
After a rough first night and climbing quite a few big hills (or small mountains) we made it through NH where I bumped into a great couple of people named Dave and Sue. Sue was nice enough to give me a cherry freeze pop and some decent conversation, both of which lifted my spirits to make it to a campsite that had a swimming pool and a hot tub! SCORE!
The next morning we made our way into VT were we continued up giant hills and I discovered my favorite lunch, salt and vinegar potato chips. The weather got really hot, and the salt was a perfect balance to all the sweat that had been pouring out of my body hauling my trailer u the great big hills.
After climbing the Green Mountains in NH we bombed (rode very fast down hill) into the eastern edge of the Adirondack Mts, which was by far the creepiest place we have camped so far. In Severance NY a guy told us to not drink the water the because it was infected, and I swear the landscape looked like the set of horror movie where everyone gets murdered with a knife.
Once we cleared the eastern edge of the Adirondacks the riding cleared up and we jumped on the Eerie Canal Pathway for bikes. The trail is pretty boring to ride on , howver it is flat and it makes for a few easy days making mile. Right now we are in Lockport NY where Bryce’s dad Kenny Fulton (aka Kenny Fultez the extremely generous) sorang for our hotel. Right now I am drunk on Sour Patch Kids and beer and greatly looking forward to a sumptuous meal at some type of local restaurant.
Much love to my fallen Homies – Dangerous Dan
